The alternatives are nearly as good and they fit a pricing model that I prefer. Pros: - Adobe After Effects has some of the best presets and transition available pre-built in it, also further assets can be downloaded from the store. But as an indie on a limited budget I realize it is time to move on personally. I have used AE on dozens of short videos to do a wide range of effects sequences. Overall: I used AE for thousands of hours on various VFX projects as far back as 2003 (before the CS series) so I do have a fondness for Adobe's software. After Effects needs to continue improving, and Adobe cannot be complacent and expect to retain its customer base in the future.

Hitfilm Pro is an excellent alternative (That I recently switched to) and Fusion is also amazing for pro-grade compositing and keying, and both of those offer one-time pricing and feature limited but still decent free versions. Worse for AE, the alternatives seem to be catching up fast. The keying tools, the masking and roto, and all the effects filters are great and very extensible - there are a ton of Ae plugins that expand the creative potential of this VFX tool to be nearly limitless.Ĭons: Creative Cloud, unfortunately, is not great.
